PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given, that, in accordance with section 71 of the Local Government Act, advance registration of electors will close at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 for voting in the 2026 General Local Elections for the following positions:
- Director, Electoral Area A – one position
- Director, Electoral Area B/Lower Columbia-Old Glory – one position
- Director, Electoral Area C/Christina Lake – one position
- Director, Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks – one position
- Director, Electoral Area E/West Boundary – one position
Persons wishing to register in advance as resident electors for voting in the 2026 General Local Elections may do so by contacting Elections BC toll-free at 1-800-661-8683 or by using the online voter registration system at www.elections.bc.ca/ovr. As of August 18, 2026, persons wishing to register in advance as resident electors may only do so by contacting the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer for the RDKB. Following the close of advance registration persons may only apply to register at the time of voting.
RESIDENT ELECTORS
To register as a resident elector a person must meet the following qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
- a Canadian citizen; and
- a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
- a resident of the electoral area; and
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS
To register as a non-resident property elector, a person must meet the following qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
- a Canadian citizen; and
- a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
- a registered owner of real property in the electoral area] for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
- the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
- not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law; and
- if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.
Persons wishing to register in advance as non-resident property electors may do so by contacting the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer for the RDKB. Following the close of advance registration persons may only apply to register at the time of voting.
PUBLIC INSPECTION OF LIST OF REGISTERED ELECTORS
Beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2026 until the close of general voting for the election on Saturday, October 17, 2026, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at the RDKB office in Trail, during regular office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, excluding statutory holidays.
Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list, make copies, or use the information included in the list except for the purposes of Part 3 – Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.
DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS
Persons wishing to register to vote as a resident elector or non-resident property elector must provide, at the time of registration, at least 2 documents as evidence of their identity and place of residence, at least one of which must contain the applicant’s signature. Applicants will also be required to make a solemn declaration before an election official regarding their place of residence.
REQUEST TO OMIT OR OBSCURE
An elector may request that their address or other personal information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors. The elector must contact the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Election Officer to make this request.
OBJECTION TO REGISTRATION OF AN ELECTOR
Objections to the registration of a person as an elector may be made by qualified electors until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026. Objections may only be made on the basis that the elector has died or that the person is not qualified to be registered as an elector of the relevant electoral area.
