A Serene Escape in the Heart of the Kettle Valley

A Serene Escape in the Heart of the Kettle Valley

As its name implies, the small community of Westbridge is located at a bridge crossing the West Kettle River. The bridge itself is part of Highway 33 which continues north to Beaverdell, following the West Kettle River and on to Kelowna.  Off the bridge due northeast is Christian Valley Road, home of the scenic Christian Valley and the winding Kettle River (called Main River by locals) that traverses 172 km to its headwaters.

The small communities in the area are sustained with ranching, farming, logging, tourism and home based business.  The Westbridge Hall is the centre of community activity for the area, hosting regular recreational and social events.  A popular destination is the Westbridge Thrift Shop on the Hall grounds.  It is operated by a group of dedicated volunteers from several communities.   Main River Women’s Institute is also active in the area.

There are many recreational destinations in the area, including:  Kettle River Recreation Area, Conkle Lake and private accommodations.  The drive up Christian Valley to Cherryville in the Kootenays is a popular one.  It is a rough road though, and travel in the winter is not recommended.  The Trans Canada Trail (TCT) passes through Westbridge.  Cyclists from around the world cycle the TCT.  There are many business opportunities for locals wanting to fill the accommodation and travel needs of travellers.
