Boundary Community Ventures hires Hendrik van Wyk as Manager of the new Boundary Food Hub

Boundary farmers, ranchers and food processors recently celebrated the launch of the new Boundary Food Hub as a critical platform to facilitate increased production of food products for commercial markets in British Columbia. The Boundary Food Hub is developing a manufacturing bakery in Greenwood, partnering with Food Metrics to provide community based food safe laboratory services in Greenwood and is designing a facility for adding value to meat products in Rock Creek. A distribution service featuring a refrigerated truck and a sophisticated IT system completes the first phase of the Food Hub’s development.  Assistance from a food safety consultant and a business planning consultant will help ready producers to take advantage of this new infrastructure.

The BC Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries is promoting the ‘Feed BC’ program.  An emerging network of food hubs across the province demonstrates commitment from the provincial government to helping scale up BC food production.

Grace McGregor, President of the new organization set up to manage the Food Hub says  “We are so pleased with the hiring of Hendrik van Wyk. Hendrik brings to the Boundary Food Hub  both broad and practical experience with a variety of food service companies, and in-depth expertise in food  regulations and processes. He lives local and is highly respected in the business community.  We look forward to working with him in meeting the Boundary Food Hub’s strategic goals and we are confident the Food Hub will be well positioned under his guidance to thrive for years to come.”

People interested in finding out more about the services that the Boundary Food Hub will provide should be in touch with Hendrik.  Full operation of the facilities and programs is expected to be ready by the late spring.
