Unleash Creativity and Kindness in Your Community: Neighbourhood Small Grants Are Back!
Get ready to unleash your creativity and make a real difference in your community because Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) are back! With over $9,800 in grants available, this program is poised to empower Kootenay Boundary residents by providing up to $500 to turn your innovative idea into impactful projects that drive positive change right in your backyard.
Trudy Hallam, NSG Coordinator at the Phoenix Foundation of the Boundary Communities, emphasizes the program’s role in nurturing community-driven ideas: “Neighbourhood Small Grants offer an exciting opportunity for individuals to grow their ideas without the financial barrier. It’s about fostering a sense of belonging, collaboration, and most importantly, kindness, within our communities.”
In a world that can often feel disconnected, implementing simple yet impactful kindness projects can go a long way toward creating a more compassionate environment. Whether it’s offering a helping hand, spreading joy, or giving back to the community, acts of kindness can have a ripple effect that touches many lives.
Last year, Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) recipients in the Kootenay Boundary region put their grants to good use, spearheading a diverse array of initiatives that not only sparked creativity but also fostered kindness and unity. These included Pride events in Castlegar, Christina Lake, and Grand Forks; senior’s outings to the Boundary Museum; community gardens in Beaverdell; spooktacular halloween displays; a Midway equinox & harvest celebration in Midway; little neighbourhood libraries; a herbal medicine-making workshop in Rossland; arts classes; pumpkin patches, and so much more!
From sharing a skill by teaching others, delivering care packages, or organizing cultural celebrations, NSG welcomes a wide array of ideas aimed at strengthening the fabric of local neighbourhoods and fostering kindness. This year consider how your project might inspire others to spread kindness within their own circles. Ideas could include a street art festival, skill-building workshops (such as food preservation, gardening, or yoga), or even organizing a “Kindness Rocks” initiative to brighten someone’s day.
Mark your calendars because applications for Neighbourhood Small Grants will be open from April 7th to May 9th, 2025, for the Kootenay Boundary region, including Castlegar and Rossland. This is your chance to seize the opportunity, make a positive impact, and foster meaningful, kind connections within your communities.
Will your idea be one of the initiatives funded this year? Join us in celebrating the spirit of your community, where kindness and creativity come together, with Neighbourhood Small Grants.
