A Job at Riverside Centre for a youth (15-30 years of age)

The new Riverside Centre will be opening soon to the community and visitors.  We have a job for a West Boundary young person who is comfortable meeting the public, has excellent computer and social media skills and is keen to brag about the West Boundary.  The job will be for 30 hours a week for 8 weeks, Wednesday to Sunday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The wage is $14.60 per hour.

Riverside Centre Visitor Information Counsellor Job Description:

Position Summary

A Community/Visitor Information Counsellor is the important link between community members, visitors, and tourism industry service providers. The main activities of a Visitor Information Counsellor include identifying visitors’ needs, offering information, and providing directions to West Boundary and Riverside Centre services and Tourism Industry service providers.  A Visitor Information Counsellor is an ambassador for the West Boundary Community and works on behalf of tourism in our province – an extremely important role.   Visitor Information Counsellors have a direct impact on the visitor’s impression of our community and of BC.   

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies information needs in support of community and visitor requests
  • Promotes West Boundary services, activities, and products
  • Communicates with West Boundary tourism operators 
  • Keeps a daily bulletin of available accommodations in the West Boundary
  • Distributes promotional materials 
  • Maintains brochure racks and ensures adequate inventory is always on hand 
  • Reviews existing materials and updates them as necessary
  • Gathers information on communities, resources, and attractions in the Boundary 
  • Ensures that the visitor understands the information provided
  • Gathers and records statistical information related to each visitor party 
  • Works with West Boundary Connect to post current information of interest to visitors such as events, Tourist Alert, road, and weather reports on possible floods, fires etc. 
  • Handles cash transactions and records at the end of each day. 
  • Complies with professional dress code and grooming standards 
  • Follows all the West Boundary Co-op’s policies and procedures 
  • Performs other administrative tasks as required

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of attractions, events, tourism products/services in the local area 
  • Excellent communication skills – face to face, telephone and written and online
  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
  • Able to demonstrate initiative 
  • Resourceful 
  • Inventory and administrative skills 
  • A team player who also works independently
  • Ensures volunteers have the information they need to respond to the public
  • Current computer skills including strong social media skills
  •  Sensitivity to other cultures
  • Outgoing, friendly, welcoming demeanor
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in the community or regionally in a positive, accurate, timely manner
  • Able to manage under COVID 19 requirements
  • Driver’s License preferred
  • Previous experience in sales and cash handling preferred
  • Completion of secondary school preferred

Working Conditions:  

  • Applicant must be between 15 and 30 years of age.
  • 30 hours per week for 8 weeks beginning July 6 to August 28.  Wednesday to Sunday 

10 am to 4:00 pm. 

  • You will be required to carry out the Destination BC Visitor Services Training
  • You will have the opportunity to take Super Host training
  • Wage:  $14.60 per hour
