GENERAL LIFEGUARDS AND SWIM INSTRUCTORS

FULL-TIME & PART-TIME POSITIONS AVAILABLE (5–6 month term)

Department: Recreation & Community Services

Rate of Pay: $18.00 – $22.00 per hour

Position Term & Schedule: May 25, 2026 to August 31, 2026. Successful candidates must be available for days, mornings, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and split shifts as required.

The City of Greenwood is currently seeking motivated and responsible individuals to serve as General Lifeguards and Swim Instructors for the 2026 outdoor pool season. These positions play an essential role in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable aquatic experience for residents and visitors of all ages.

POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: General Lifeguards and Swim Instructors

DEPARTMENT: Recreation & Community Services

CATEGORY: Temporary Position

General Accountability Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisor (or designate), the General Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for providing vigilant supervision of pool patrons, delivering quality swim instruction, enforcing pool rules and regulations, and assisting with the daily operation and maintenance of the City’s outdoor pool facility.

Minimum Qualifications

For Lifeguards: • Grade 11 or 12 (or equivalent) • Current National Lifeguard (Pool Option) • Current Standard First Aid, CPR C & AED • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

For Swim Instructors: • Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certification (or equivalent) • National Lifeguard (Pool Option) preferred • Current Standard First Aid, CPR C & AED • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Experience & Knowledge • Experience lifeguarding and/or instructing swim lessons is an asset • Knowledge of aquatic safety standards and emergency procedures • Ability to effectively supervise patrons and respond to emergencies • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment • Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner • Sound judgment and decision-making skills • Physical ability to perform water rescues and first aid as required • Ability to assist with general pool maintenance and deck set-up
