Don’t Let the Columbia Western Rail Trail Be Abandoned!
The iconic trail from Christina Lake to Castlegar—part of the Trans Canada Trail—is being quietly neglected by the Province, despite a 2019 promise that access and stewardship would not change. Today, it’s being downgraded to “wilderness status” with no maintenance, no planning, and no funding.
This trail is not just a path—it’s a pillar of tourism, history, and rural economic development.
Without action, crumbling trestles and warning signs will replace opportunity.
This isn’t stewardship. It’s abandonment.
We’re calling on the Province of BC to:
Reinstate proper trail management
Fund maintenance & safety
Honour its 2019 commitments
Work with communities and users
Protect access for all
Sign the petition now to protect the CWRT and ensure our trails are not quietly erased:
